Memorial Day Salute

Salute your fallen loved one in the comments today.

I included a paragraph from my Memorial Day Salute 2013. To me, it still has meaning today.

It’s Friday morning, the beginning of the long awaited Memorial Day weekend. It’s a time for remembering those who died in active duty to our country. I want to mention my uncle who was a Marine (OO-RAH) during the Vietnam War. He stepped on a landmine when I was a senior in high school. I don’t have to tell the rest. I didn’t get to see him when he was shipped home or prior to burial. My parents wouldn’t allow it. Because of that, I sometimes imagine I’d see this legless man hunched on a street corner, and I’d recognize him after all the years. I’d bring him home with me. I guess that’s called denial—or crazy.

Thank you to the men and women who gave their lives defending our freedoms.

Readers and writers, salute your fallen loved one on this Memorial Day.

Earth Day 2014 in South Louisiana

Earth Day 2014

Earth Day 2014 in South Louisiana took place yesterday. The threatening weather forecast for this past weekend, in my area, didn’t materialize. South Louisiana’s normally humid weather was breezy and comfortable. It was a great day to learn something new or be refreshed about our environment.

Booths and stages lined the downtown boulevard.

The delicious aroma of food drifted in the air. Places to eat were plentiful. Just look at the menu board at one booth.

Turkey legs. Fried pickles. Alligator-on-a-stick. Shark-a-bob. When have you ever had any of those delicacies?

Live music and dancing, including belly dancing, rounded out the entertainment of the day. I have a few clips to share with you.

So, enjoy the music and the dancers.

Video above has no sound due to Google third-party alert. Watch the dancer’s graceful movements.

Tell me. How did you enjoy your Earth Day? Leave a comment.

Roasted Boneless Pork Loin Today, the New Orleans Saints battle the Seattle Seahawks—in Seattle—again.
